Where the teaching of reading and writing are grounded in the where of learning.

Welcome, y’all!

Literacy In Place is a digital space where teachers, scholars, writers, and readers can consider how the where of reading/writing/learning shapes and is shaped by experience, culture, and identity. With a particular focus on rural literacies, you’ll find YA book reviews and lists, opportunities to participate in book clubs and engage with other readers and writers, as well as resources for teaching across all educational levels.

Meet the Founder

I am a farm girl, former rural English teacher, and current assistant professor teaching future teachers in courses on reading and writing methods, young adult literature, and teaching/learning in urban/rural contexts. Literacy in Place is here to serve teachers – to think and read and write and share our stories and grow together. Please reach out if you have an idea for a blog post, lesson plan, or have any questions about the work of Literacy in Place.
